“Born Global” and AI Revolution: Two Mega-Trends Reshaping Chinese Entrepreneurship

Chinese entrepreneurs today are standing at the intersection of two historic waves—the "born global" movement and the artificial intelligence revolution—that are fundamentally reshaping how Chinese businesses compete on the world stage, according to leading economists and industry observers.

At the third Global Overseas Summit in Singapore in late June,Financial writer Xiaobo Wu  identified these two forces as the defining opportunities for this generation of Chinese entrepreneurs.

The "Born Global" Phenomenon

China's cross-border e-commerce sector is rapidly entering a "born global" phase. According to Amazon Global Selling and Forbes China, which jointly released the "2026 Forbes China Next-Gen Cross-Border E-commerce 30 Under 30" list on June 30, the new generation of cross-border e-commerce entrepreneurs are building global businesses from day one.

"The new generation of entrepreneurs is building differentiated advantages through technological innovation and planning brand paths with a global vision, treating global business layout as the default option from the very beginning," said Song Xiaojun at the award ceremony.

The 30 honorees, with an average age of 35, include pioneers in hard-tech sectors such as 3D printing, courtyard robot and AI hearing aids, as well as transformers of traditional industries including furniture, home goods, and apparel. They are competing through product innovation, operational efficiency, and business model reinvention—moving beyond the old efficiency-driven competition to value-driven competition.

AI Revolution as a Catalyst

The AI revolution is serving as a powerful catalyst for this born global trend. Chinese AI companies are increasingly recognized on the global stage. In February 2026, Tec-Do Technology, an AI marketing tech company, officially filed for an IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, pursuing the title of "first go overseas marketing Agent IPO".

The convergence of AI and cross-border trade is creating new possibilities. From AI-powered translation and content generation to intelligent product selection and marketing automation, AI tools are lowering the barriers to global expansion for Chinese entrepreneurs.

From Efficiency to Value Competition

China's cross-border e-commerce has shifted from efficiency competition to value competition. The new generation of entrepreneurs generally build global businesses from the start, with the core direction being to gain pricing power through differentiated products.

Lightweight teams achieving scalable growth, and traditional industry practitioners transitioning to independent brand exports based on their existing industrial foundations, represent the key development trends in cross-border brand go overseas.

Outlook: A New Era of Global Competition

As Chinese entrepreneurs embrace both the born global mindset and AI-powered capabilities, they are positioned to compete not just on cost but on innovation, brand, and technology. The convergence of these two mega-trends is creating unprecedented opportunities for Chinese businesses to establish global footprints and capture value in international markets.
