The 139th Canton Fair saw AI toys dominate the toy section. From voice-enabled plush toys to programmable STEM bots, AI integration is now a key sales driver.
**GUANGZHOU – The 139th Canton Fair (China Import and Export Fair) concluded its third phase on May 5, 2026. If one theme dominated the fair‘s toy and baby products section—which brought together over 800 exhibitors—it was the rapid and decisive commercialization of“AI + Toys.” What was once a futuristic concept has now become a mainstay on buyers’ shopping lists across multiple international markets.
AI‘s presence was far more than just a buzzword. Throughout the fair—which recorded over 314,000 overseas buyers from 220 countries and regions, a 1.1% increase from the previous session—AI-enabled toys consistently drew the
largest crowds. According to on-site reports, real-time interactive AI stuffed animals, voice-responsive educational products, and AI-powered companion robots emerged as the most sought-after toy categories among international buyers. The general consensus among sourcing professionals was clear: the era of“dumb toys” is ending, and the era of“responsive, smart toys” has arrived.
Notable product successes reinforced this shift. One of the most talked-about AI toys at the Canton Fair was a panda-shaped interactive robot that blends traditional Eastern aesthetics with responsive, AI-driven behavior. According to exhibitor interviews, the panda robot immediately drew the attention of European buyers, who praised its ability to maintain natural conversations and remember individual children‘s preferences. This is arguably AI’s killer app in toys: creating a more personalized, emotionally resonant relationship between child and product.
The transition from concept to commercial reality also entails standardization. During the fair, the Guangdong Provincial Artificial Intelligence Standardization Technical Committee‘s AI Toy Working Group held its inaugural meeting and approved two landmark regulations: the“General Technical Specifications for AI Toys” and the “Safety Evaluation Rules for AI Toy Products.“ The latter is China’s first comprehensive safety evaluation standard specifically for AI-equipped toys, covering data privacy, voice interaction safety, and child-specific content filtering.
Reflecting the industry‘s growth trajectory, industry estimates cited at the fair suggested that China’s AI toy market reached approximately RMB 29 billion in 2025 and is expected to exceed RMB 100 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in excess of 20%. Much of this growth is anchored in Guangdong Province, where Shenzhen alone accounts for 50% of China‘s total output of smart early-learning robots.
The 139th Canton Fair provided irrefutable evidence that “AI+Toys” has moved decisively from technical concept to commercially viable reality—and global buyers are taking notice.
