Chinese enterprises' participation in overseas exhibitions has shown robust growth in both volume and quality during the first five months of 2026, according to the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). A total of 498 overseas exhibition projects were executed, up 7.1% year-on-year, reflecting the strong momentum of China's foreign trade sector.
Steady Growth in Project Numbers
From January to May 2026, the CCPIT approved 513 planned overseas exhibition projects and actually executed 498, representing year-on-year growth of 6.7% and 7.1% respectively. Of these, 486 were participated in an exhibition projects and 12 were independently organized exhibitions, involving 50 exhibition organizers and covering 44 countries and regions.
"Participating in overseas exhibitions is an important channel for foreign trade enterprises to stabilize orders and expand markets," said Wang Yifei, CCPIT spokesperson, at the June regular press conference.
Emerging Markets Show Fastest Growth
Latin America and the Caribbean region recorded the fastest growth in exhibition project numbers, up 30.6% year-on-year, followed by Africa at 18.2%. Mature markets also maintained steady expansion, with Western Europe and North America growing 10.8% and 9.7% respectively, while Asia grew 1.9%.
Traditional and Emerging Industries Both Perform Strongly
Machinery, textile and leather products, and transportation logistics remained the top three traditional industries in terms of project numbers. Consumer goods, food, and agricultural products—sectors closer to end-user markets—saw increased participation, with their ranking improving from fifth and eighth to fourth and fifth respectively.
Emerging industries also delivered impressive performances. Nearly 1,000 Chinese companies participated in the Consumer Electronics Show in the United States, over 350 Chinese companies exhibited at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and more than 450 Chinese companies made a strong showing at the Hospitalar medical exhibition in São Paulo, Brazil, continuously enhancing the global influence of "China Intelligence Manufacturing".
Outlook: Continued Support for Overseas Exhibition Expansion
Wang Yifei stated that the CCPIT will continue to optimize the management of overseas economic and trade exhibitions based on enterprises' actual needs, helping companies better utilize overseas exhibition platforms to explore diversified markets and promote high-quality development of foreign trade through high-level overseas exhibitions.
