China's green and low-carbon products have emerged as a powerful new engine for export growth in 2026, with lithium batteries and wind power generators posting approximately 40% year-on-year growth in the first five months, according to the latest General Administration of Customs data.
High-Tech Electromechanical Products Lead Exports
High-tech and high-value-added mechanical and electrical product exports reached 7.58 trillion yuan in the January-May period, up 18.4% year-on-year, accounting for over 60% of China's total exports. Within this category, green products including lithium batteries and wind power generators performed particularly well, with growth of approximately 40%.
Strong Growth Across All Green Sectors
In the first quarter of 2026 alone, electric vehicle exports surged 77.5% year-on-year, lithium battery exports grew 50.4%, and wind power generator and parts exports increased 45.2%. These figures demonstrate the accelerating global transition toward green energy and China's leading role in supplying the world's green technology needs.
In 2025, the "new three" exports—electric vehicles, lithium batteries, and photovoltaic products—grew 27.1%, while wind power generator exports grew 48.7%. The momentum has continued into 2026.
Global Market Expansion Driving Growth
Behind the export surge is a rapidly expanding global new energy market. Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) forecasts that global newly installed equipment of photovoltaic, wind power, and energy storage will reach 649GW, 154GW, and 158GW/459GWh respectively in 2026, with energy storage growing 41% year-on-year.
A deeper industry inflection point is occurring: the global energy transition has entered a new structural phase, with new energy gradually transitioning from supplementary power sources to the mainstay of power systems.
"Dual Drive" of Global Demand and Domestic Policy
Analysts point to a "dual drive" of global market demand pull and domestic industrial policy push behind China's green export growth. The trend of China's foreign trade moving toward new, green, and smart directions is clear.
Chinese new energy companies are leveraging full-industry-chain advantages to sustain export momentum. From green energy enterprises securing major overseas energy storage orders to new energy vehicle sales rapid growth overseas and Chinese wind turbines reaching global markets, "Made in China" green products are accelerating their global expansion.
